What is Hypnosis/hypnotherapy? Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state between conscious wakefulness and sleep. It is a very pleasant state of calm, peaceful relaxation.
I've never been hypnotised and I'm a bit nervous It is a natural human reaction to be wary of things or events we don't understand or that we haven't experienced. In fact, you experience hypnotic states on a daily basis - each time you are nodding off to sleep and each time you wake and you are in that drowsy half-asleep moment. You've also experienced a hypnotic state whenever you have daydreamed.
Is it like stage hypnosis - I don't want to be doing silly things Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis. Volunteer's for stage performances are hand picked and are the types of people that would be outrageous in normal life, or they are game for a laugh after a few drinks.
Can I be made to do anything against my will? Absolutely not. In fact should such a suggestion be made, you would likely be shocked out of hypnosis.
Can I speak whilst in hypnosis? Yes, and in some cases you will be encouraged to do so but usually only the therapist will need to talk.
Can anyone by hypnotised? Yes, pretty much - providing they want to be hypnotised.
What does hypnosis feel like? You'll feel very relaxed and calm. Some people experience a heaviness to their limbs, others a light floating feeling.
Will I be aware of what is happening? Yes, you will not be asleep at any stage and you will be fully aware of everything that is happening.
Will I remember what happens in the session? There is absolutely no reason why you will not recall everything.
How will I be hypnotised? You will be asked to make yourself comfortable in a chair and close your eyes whilst you are guided into a hypnotic state using the hypnotherapist's voice. At the end of the session you will be brought back to fully alert state.
Can I bring a friend? Yes, you can bring a friend if you wish.
How Much does it cost? A session lasts for around an hour and costs £40.
How many sessions will I need? Terrible answer, but it depends on you and the problem. As a general guide, simple fears & phobias will only need 1 or 2 sessions, stress & anxiety issues around 2-3 sessions and more complex, deeper issues maybe 4 or 5 sessions.
